This kozhambu is tamarind based and is similar to Vetha kuzhambu . However , the spices added to the kozhambu , make them taste different .

A variety of dals are added to the kuzhambu along with brinjals and ladies finger .

- Chana dal 1 teaspoon
- Tuvar Dal 1 teaspoon
- Moong dal 1 teaspoon
- Black gram dal ( Urad Dal) 1 teaspoon
- Asafoetida ( Perungayam) / Hing 1 inch or a quarter of a teaspoon
- Tamarind 1 lemon size
- Black Pepper 6 to 8 corns
- Coriander seeds 2 teaspoons
- Mustard 1 teaspoon
- Salt 1 1/2 teaspoon
- Sesame Oil 1/4 cup and a little more
- Dried Red chilies 6
- Fenugreek seeds 1/2 teaspoon
- Green chilies 5 to 6 ( slit into two)
- Vegetable 1/2 cup cut medium size
- Rice flour 1 teaspoon

- Soak tamarind in two and half cups of water.
- In a kadai or a pan , add fenugreek seeds and when slightly red , remove and keep aside.
- Add 6 teaspoons of oil to the same pan and add all the dals and shallow fry till light brown.
- Add Asafoetida , Red chilies ,Black Pepper , Coriander seeds and shallow fry for minute. Powder to a smooth texture and keep aside.
- Extract juice from the soaked tamarind .
- In the same kadai , add remaining oil , heat . Add mustard . As it crackles , add green chilies.
Add the chopped vegetables and salt . - After a minute , add the tamarind juice . Mix the powder , stir .
- Cook in low flame till the juice thickens .
- Add rice flour mixed in a tablespoon of water .
- The Race kuzhambu will thicken further . After a minute or two remove from fire .
- Sprinkle some curry leaves on top .
- Serve hot with Rice.
- The vegetables which can be used are brinjals , ladies finger . These are the first choices. Drumstick is the second choice .
