Cabbage Poriyal / Cabbage Sabji

 

Cabbage is a common side dish , which can be eaten with rice or rotis . As most South Indians , are rice eaters , it is made as a side dish . The vegetable, is easily available and cheap too .  Cabbage is easy to chop and gets cooked easily , so it can be an excellent side dish to be made in a hurry . Cabbage is packed with nutrients , but is often overlooked . It has high anti oxidants and fights chronic inflammation. Cabbage in low in calories and treats stomach disorders too . Its high in Vitamin C and Vitamin K.

Ingredients

  1. Cabbage  2 cups ( chopped fine )
  2. Green chilies 3 ( chopped fine )
  3. Coconut oil or oil of your choice 1 tablespoons
  4. Grated coconut 1/4 to 1/2 cup
  5. Salt 1 teaspoon
  6. Mustard  1 teaspoon
  7. Urad dal 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Curry leaves   few
  9. Turmeric Powder 1/2 teaspoon

Method

  • In a shallow frying pan , heat oil . Add mustard , when it crackles , add  green chilies ,urad dal and curry leaves .
  • Saute , for few seconds . Add chopped cabbage , turmeric powder and stir . Cook , covered , till cooked soft .
  • Remove the lid off and on , and stir . If needed , add a handful of water .
  • Add salt and garnish with grated coconut .
  • Tasty Cabbage Poriyal , is ready .
