Thool Pakoda, is a deep fried snack available, throughout the year, in all tea shops , in India. Its especially famous , in South India . Its enjoyed with tea and is extremely easy to make . Its very popular as a snack amongst Indians .

Ingredients

  1. Kadalamaavu / Besan / Bengal gram flour   2 cups
  2. Rice flour   1/4 cup
  3. Salt 2 teaspoons
  4. Ginger  3 teaspoons ( grated)
  5. Green chilies 1/4 cup ( chopped fine)
  6. Cashewnuts 20 ( broken)
  7. Curry leaves few
  8. Coriander leaves ( 1/4 cup) Chopped fine
  9. Onions  3  ( chopped fine )
  10. Ghee 2  tablespoons
  11. Asafoetida   ( Hing)  Perungaayam    1/2  teaspoon
  12. Baking soda 1/4 teaspoon ( optional )
  13. Oil for deep frying 1/2 liter

Method

  • In a bowl , add the Besan  and all the ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle just enough water, to make the mixture thick ,firm and powdery .
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan . When it becomes hot , reduce the heat to medium.
  • Pinch a little bits of the Pakoda dough and drop into the hot oil. Deep fry till golden brown.
  • Drain and serve hot .
