Plantain Podi / Vazhaikai Podi

The Plantains are frequently used as a side dish with rice in South India. They taste well with Sambar and Rice . However, to make the Plantains taste well , they are cooked in a variety of ways . One tasty way to prepare the plantains, is Plantain Podi

Ingredients

 

  1. Plantains 3 ( Chopped into two)
  2. Dried Red Chilies 6 to 8
  3. Oil 4 teaspoons
  4. Mustard 1 teaspoons
  5. Black gram dal ( Urad dal) 2 teaspoons
  6. Red gram dal (tuvar dal) 2 teaspoons
  7. Asafoetida ( Perumgayam) Hing 1/4 teaspoon

Method

  • In a saute pan or a small shallow pan , add oil and heat it for 30 secs . Add Mustard , Red chilies , Asafoetida , Urad dal , Tuvar dal and shallow fry.
  • When the Dals become reddish brown , remove and cool . Powder coarsely .
  • Cook the Plantains with peel in a steamer or pressure cooker . Peel  and crumble them and add the prepared powder and mix well .
  • Tasty Plantain curry is ready .
