Mint Thogaiyal / Pudina Thogaiyal/ Pudina Thuvaiyal

 

 

Thuvaiyal or Thogaiyal is a  thick chutney, which are served with rice . They taste absolutely delicious and take the daily menu to  a higher level.

Thogaiyal are made with Coconut, Dals, Mint, Coriander and many other vegetables . Apart from immune boosting properties,it reduces the risk of food related issues in the gut area. If you suffer from sinus problems a strong vapor of mint clears the nose and gives lots of relief. It should be included in the daily diet , as its full of anti oxidants. It can be infused in tea  decoction , on a regular basis to get maximum benefit.

  1. Mint leaves de stalked 4 cups
  2. Tamarind as big as lemon
  3. Rock salt 1 teaspoon
  4. Dried red chillies  6 to 8
  5. Oil 1 teaspoon
  6. Mustard 3/4 teaspoon
  7. Asafoetida 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Urad dal 2 teaspoons

Method

Method

  • In a Kadai, add oil . Heat and add mustard . When it crackles, add Red chillies and Urad dal. Shallow fry for a few seconds .
  • In a food processor , add the mint leaves , salt and tamarind and grind to a coarse paste , without adding water .
  • Add the seasonings and grind again for few seconds .
  • Thugaiyal is ready.
  • It can be served with hot rice and sesame oil .
  • Eat with Chutta Appalam ( Roasted Papads).

Note

.
  • Clean the Pudina leaves well , before using as its tends to have lots of soil .
  • Coconut can be grated and added, while grinding for the  thogaiyal.
  • Can be added to rice to make an instant Pudina rice .
