This is a dish made with leftover idlis. This way the idlis get a makeover and you could serve a new dish too. In most South Indian homes, idlis are a staple diet for breakfast. So these can be made from leftover ones and they are spicier, tasty and healthy too. A filling after school snack.

Ingredients
- Idly 6 in numbers,
- Onions 2 medium sized chopped,
- Green chillies 4 in number chopped fine,
- Curry leaves few(1 tablespoon),
- Oil for seasoning 1 tablespoon,
- Salt ½ teaspoon,
- Sambar powder 1 teaspoon,
- Idly milagai podi(idly powder) ½ tsp,
- Juice of half a lemon,
- Ghee 1 tablespoon,
- Ginger grated ½ tsp.
- Coriander leaves for garnish
- Lemon juice 1 teaspoon
Method
- In a pan, heat oil, add mustard, as it pops. add black gram dal ,green chillies, cashew nuts and curry leaves.
- Add onions and fry till light brown.
- Crumble the idlis well with your hand or chop it into small cubes according to your preference stir well.
- Add ghee and shallow fry, add sambar powder and idly milagai podi.
- Stir the powder till it coats well on the idly crumbs or cubes.
- You could add more oil for extra crispness or reduce the oil too, according to your liking.
- Drizzle some lemon juice on top and garnish with coriander leaves to make it eye catching. Enjoy.
- Doesn’t need any accompaniment like chutney as such, but you could serve coriander chutney or ketchup too, will taste great with it.
Note
- Vegetables like capsicum ,peas ,grated carrots, tomatoes can be added to the above upma .
- Groundnuts too can be added to the above upma
