Pachadis are a side dish, which is eaten with rice in South India . Its mostly made in Tamilnadu and many parts of Kerala, as Jackfruit is available in plenty, in Southern parts . The Jackfruits arrive in the markets. , at the onset of summer . The Jackfruits are called as wonder fruits. as they are rich in vitamins , minerals and offer host of benefits . On top of that , they are extremely delicious to eat . Our ancestors made a variety of dishes from the fruit . Its used in Payasam as a dessert , made into jams known as Chakka Varatti , burfi and sweet appams too .
The fruit is thorny on the outside and can be cut into two with a sharp knife . However apply oil to your hand and knife before cutting the fruit . Also spread a sheet underneath the fruit , while cutting as the fruit has sticky sap which it releases while cutting . It has a central thick white stem too and is fibrous. Cutting futher into four pieces and removing the fibres ,we can remove the the fleshy jackfruits , one by one , by hand .
Remove the seeds in the jackfruits and use the fleshy parts to cook .
