A new name for a powder ,which can be used for idlis ,dosai and other dosai items . Gujarathi Chili Powder , is a tasty powder ,which is similar to Idli Molagapodi. Its easy to make and can be stored for a long time . It comes in handy as a side dish for idly , dosai , uthappams etc. If one does’nt have the time to make chutneys or sambaar as a side dish , one make easily use, the prepared powder and make the breakfast tastier .
Ingredients
- Sesame ( black or white ) seeds a little more than a quarter cup
- Urad dal ( blackfram dal) 1/4 cup
- Chana dal ( bengal gram dal) 1/4 cup
- Tuvar dal ( red gram dal ) 1/4 cup
- Moong dal 4 tablespoons
- Red chilies 1 1/2 cups
- Salt less than quarter cup
- Hing ( Perungaayam) 1 teaspoon
Method
- Dry roast the red chilies, till it becomes hot , in a broad deep kadai.
- Remove and keep aside .
- Add sesame seeds , and roast till they pop. Remove and keep aside .
- Dry roast the dals till they release aroma and they become hot and light brown.
- Add hing and salt to the dals .
- In a mixie , grind the red chilies to a smooth powder. Add the salt and the dals and grind again to a coarse powder .
- Bottle and use with Dosai , Uthappams . Idlis and other dishes .
- If you are making the above powder , in large quantites , dry roast them in batches and then powder one by one . Mix well in the end .
- Dry roast the dals very well , otherwise the Podi will not taste good .
