A tasty Sundal with a very common ingredient in the kitchen. Bengal gram dal is an excellent vegetarian protein and rich in fibre. Its heart healthy ,diabetic friendly and aids weight loss too . It is rich in calcium and has anti inflammatory properties .
Ingredients
- Chana Dal/ Bengal gram dal 1 cup
- Salt 2 teaspoons
- Sesame or Coconut oil 2 teaspoons
- Mustard half a teaspoon
- Green chilies / Dried red chilies 4 ( chopped fine )
- Hing or Asafoetida 1/4 of a teaspoon
- Curry leaves few
- Grated Coconut 1/4 of a cup
- Ginger grated 1/2 teaspoon
Method
- Soak the Chana dal for 2 hours . Drain and pressure cook , to two whistles in a pressure cooker or till soft but not mushy.
- In a saute pan , add oil and heat . Add mustard and when it crackles , add green chilies , ginger ,curry leaves and hing .
- Add the cooked Chana dal and salt and give it a stir .
- Sprinkle grated coconut on top . Tasty Sundal is ready .
- Home made Sambar powder or other curry powder can be added to enhance the taste .
- Lemon juice can be sprinkled over the sundal to get a tangy taste
