This is a delicious Payasam which can be made from Coconut milk. Indian cuisine has a variety of payasams which are made primarily from milk . However this Payasam is little different .
This is made from Coconut milk , which is tasty and delicious and top of that its vegan and gluten free.
Indians celebrate all auspicious occasions with a sweet and Payasam or Kheer is a must on the list. Its uncomplicated to make, easy and ingredients are generally available in the kitchen pantry.
Its a delight to eat and nobody gets tired of eating it.
Its generally made on the first day of Aadi month, which usually falls on mid July . Usually big kolams are drawn in front of the houses and sweets are made to please the Gods .
Variety of sweets are made on Tuesdays and Fridays of the Aadi Month, as an offering to God . Amman or Devi is especially worshipped during this month.

- Thick Coconut Milk 4 cups
- Rice 2 teaspoon
- Palm sugar / Sugar 1 cup
- Cardamom 3/4 teaspoon
- Pachaikarpooram (edible camphor) a pinch
Method
Method
- In a thick bottomed vessel , add coconut milk and heat in medium flame .
- When it gets a little hot , add sugar and stir,
- Cook in low flame till it becomes very hot , but does’nt boil.
- Remove from fire .
- Add cardamom powder and pachaikarpooram.
- The Payasam is ready to be offered as Prasad or offering to God.
Note
- Do not boil the coconut milk , otherwise it may curdle.
- Coconut Milk can be made at home .Grate the coconut . Measure four cups of the coconut scrapings.
- Add 2 cups of water and grind to a fine paste .Extract milk by squeezing with your hands or by filtering the ground paste, collect them in a vessel.
- Add 1 more cup of water and grind to get more milk.
- Usually two big coconuts give four cups of thick coconut milk.
- Ready made coconut milk is also available in supermarkets .
- Nuts can be fried in ghee and added, if needed.
- Saffron can be added to the above recipe.
