Plaintain curry finds its way in the daily meal fare in a South Indian household. However, it is cooked in different ways and this recipe is one of them. As plaintains are easy to chop and cook they are a homemaker’s delight. Buy fresh green raw bananas for making this curry . This can be eaten with sambhar and rasam.
Ingredients
- Green Raw Banana (Plantains ) 2 large ,
- Red gram dal (half cooked) ½ cup,
- Coconut gratings a handful or a little more,
- Bengal gram dal or cashew nuts 2 teaspoon.
- Oil 4 teaspoon,
- Green chillies 4 (chopped fine),
- Asafoetida ¼ teaspoon,
- Salt 1 teaspoon,
- Mustard 1 teaspoon,
- Black gram dal 1 ½ teaspoon,
- Ginger grated 2 teaspoon,
- Curry leaves few.
Method
- Cut the plaintain into half and cook them with the peel, to soft.
- When it cools, peel the skin and mash. Add salt and keep aside.
- In a shallow pan, heat oil, add mustard as it splutters , add black gram dal, ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and cashew nuts/bengal gram dal
- Stir for a minute or so. Add half cooked dal. Stir for two to three minutes.
- Add coconut gratings and mashed plantain.
- Stir and cook for to three to four minutes.
- Remove from heat. Serve hot with rice.
