Generally, Kanjis are made in most Tamilian homes , when somebody is ill or is recovering from an infection. Also when one has an upset stomach or a loss of appetite , you could make this Kanji and serve. This Kanji is absolutely harmless and can be mixed with buttermilk and salt or milk and sugar .
This kanji, can be given to babies too and is very easy on the stomach. It can be had on normal days too , with a dash of pickle or green chilies .
The Kanji makes for a filling, quick ideal breakfast . The powder can be made for a month or so and used when required .
Ingredients
- Parboiled Rice 1 cup
- Water 5 cups
- Buttermilk 1 cup
- Salt as required
- Curry leaves ( optional ) few
Method
- Wash the rice and dry in shade . When its dried well , powder them coarsely .
- Heat water in a deep bowl or kadai . Add the rice to the the hot water and cook in low heat .
- Stir often .
- When the rice grits become soft , remove from fire .
- Add buttermilk and salt , to the kanji when its lukewarm and mix well. Garnish with curry leaves .
- When a little warm , you can also add milk and sugar , instead of buttermilk and mix well . Eat when hot .
- The Kanji powder can be made in larger quantities , and kept aside for future use .
Note
- If making the dish on a normal day for an adult , you can add pickle or fried green chilies to make it spicy.
