Onion Thuvaiyal , is a thick chutney kind of accompaniment with rice , which is quick to make and tastes divine.
The thogaiyal will remain unspoilt, for a few days , if refrigerated. Onions are easily available at home and this dish can be made with very little ingredients . The thogaiyal , tastes spicy and pairs well with rice and with other South Indian breakfast menu too .
Ingredients
- Onions 4 ( medium size )
- Tamarind lemon size
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Dried red chilies 10 to 12
- Asafoetida ( Hing) 1/2 teaspoon
- Oil 2 teaspoons
- Mustard 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry leaves few
- Black gram dal 3 teaspoons
Method
- Chop onions roughly . In a kadai , add oil , and heat it . Add red chilies , black gram dal , tamarind , asafoetida and chopped onions and shallow fry.
- After a minute , transfer to a mixie jar and grind to a rough paste, without adding water .
- In the same kadai , add a little oil and add mustard and curry leaves .
- Add to the ground paste and grind just for a few seconds.
- Adjust the quantity of tamarind , chilies and salt according to your taste.
