Moong dal salad is one of the tastiest and easiest salad from the Kosumalli , variety of salads. This is generally prepared on Rama Navami day as an offering to Lord Rama , along with Panakam.
Kosumallis are types of salads , belonging to the Tamilnadu . Its a part of wedding or a festival feast menu . Its also made on normal days , as a side dish to the main menu of Rice , Sambaar and Koottu . This can be eaten as it is as an evening snack.

- Moong dal / Green gram dal 1 cup
- Lemon Juice 2 tablespoons
- Oil 2 teaspoon
- Mustard 1 teaspoon
- Green chilies 2 ( chopped fine )
- Grated coconut 1/4 cup
- Curry leaves few
- Asafoetida 1/2 teaspoon
- Grated Cucumber or Carrot 2 cups ( optional)
- Salt 3/4 teaspoon

Method
- Wash and drain the dal and cook it till half done or al’dente.
- Heat oil in a small saute pan , add mustard , as it crackles , add green chilies , asafoetida and curry leaves .
- Add it to partially cooked dal , mix well .
- Add salt and grated cucumber / carrot on top, mix well.
- Sprinkle grated coconut and lemon juice , on top.
- The Kosumalli is ready to serve .

Note
- When carrots or cucumbers are grated , squeeze and remove juice and then add to the Kosumalli.
- Cook the dal partially ,the over cooked dal in the kosumalli wont taste good.
- The dal should be firm while adding to Kosumalli.
- Moong dal can be soaked for an hour or so and added to kosumalli , without cooking it .
- Adding grated carrots or cucumber is optional . This kosumalli can be made without them too.
