Milagu Ulundhu Vadai/ Pepper Blackgram dal Vadai

 

 

 

 

This is not to be confused with the Pepper Vadai which is prepared for Anjaneya or Hanuman in temples, for Vada Malai in South India.

This Vadai basically, has a generous addition of black pepper .

The Vadai therefore has a rich spicy black pepper taste. Black Pepper is healthy weight loss aid, which can be used in your daily diet without any side effects .

It detoxifies the body, prevents wrinkles and acne . It also helps when you are constipated in clearing your bowels and clears chest congestion.

  1. Urad Dal / Black gram Dal 2 cups
  2. Black pepper  1 teaspoon
  3. Salt 2 teaspoons
  4. Ginger grated 1/2  teaspoons  ( optional)
  5. Cumin seeds 1/4 teaspoons ( optional)
  6. Green chilies 1 chopped fine (optional)
  7. Oil for deep frying half a liter

  • Soak the dal for 2 hours. Drain ,wash and drain again.   Take a quarter of cup of dal and keep aside , for adding later to the batter.
  • Grind  the rest ,to a smooth fine batter , adding salt ,black pepper , cumin seeds , ginger and green chilies. Do not add water . If needed, add very  little.
  • Add the soaked  dal which has been kept aside  to the batter . This will provide crunchiness to the vadais.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan.  Wet your hands . Take a ladle of the batter and place it in  your palm.  Flatten it and make a hole in the centre.
  • Slip into   the smoking hot oil  gently and deep fry ill golden brown. While cooking, reduce the heat to medium hot, so that the inside of the vadais too, get cooked.
  • You could use a plastic sheet too, to make the vadais.
  • Repeat for the rest of the batter .
  • Eat hot with coconut chutney.

Note

  • You can add or reduce the amount of pepper required , according to the spice level, you tolerate in your dish.
