Sweets are prepared for all occasions , be it a birthday , anniversaries or a happy occasion. Sweets are also prepared as a offering to God , as a token of gratitude . The Hindus religion as such, has festivals throughout the year and there’s no want of occasion to prepare sweets . Sweet are a part and parcel of the daily food in many communities . Therefore , in India sweets variety is myriad and extremely tasty and delicous. Some preparations are cumbersome and time taking , while some are easy to prepare . Maida Burfy , is a sweet which can be prepared ,with very little ingredients and is delicious .
Ingredients
- Maida 2 cups
- Sugar 4 cups
- Ghee 1 cup
- Cardamom Powder 1/2 teaspoon
- Saffron few strands
- Food color a pinch ( optional)
Method
- Grease a plate with sides and keep aside . Add one tablespoon of milk to saffron strands and soak them in it.
- Heat 1/4 cup ghee and add maida to hot ghee , stir in low heat for two minutes or so .
- In a wide big bottomed thick Kadai , add two cups of water and heat it . Add sugar and cook till it dissolves.
- Reduce heat and cook , till it gets one thick thread consistency .
- To test the thread consistency , take a drop of sugar syrup in your thumb and drag it between your thumb and forefinger . If it forms a thick thread , its ready . If not, cook for some more time.
- Add roasted Maida , saffron and food color ,to the sugar syrup and cook , Stir off and on and cook in low heat .
- When it thickens , add remaining ghee and cardamom powder . Mix well and cook in low heat, till everything mixes well and the burfy thickens a bit .
- Transfer it to a greased plate with sides . Let it cool , cut and enjoy .
