Kosumalli is a South Indian salad. Kosumallis can be a meal on their own , if you are on a special low carbohydrate diet or can be served as platter along with Koottus and Poriyals.
Its quick to make and makes every meal extra special. They are made with a variety of vegetables , like carrot , plantain stem ,radish etc . However the following recipe is made from cucumber.
Ingredients
- Cucumber 2 (medium size )
- Black Pepper corns 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds 3/4 teaspoon
- Salt 1 teaspoon
- Oil 2 teaspoons
- Mustard 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon juice 2 tablespoons
Method
- Choose fresh and tender cucumber . Grate the cucumber or chop to fine pieces . Squeeze and remove extra water , otherwise the kosumalli will become watery .
- Powder the pepper and cumin seeds in a mortar and pestle , to a fine powder . Sprinkle the powder and salt over the grated cucumber and mix well .
- In a small sauce pan, add oil and heat it. Add mustard and let it crackle . Season the kosumalli . Add the lemon juice too and mix well .
- Enjoy as a part of your meal or on its own.
Note
- You can add soaked Moong dal or Green gram dal, to the cucumber and make it more filling .
- Grated coconut too, can be added .
