Bread has entered and stayed put in many Indian homes, in spite of rich and varied cuisine. Bread is a convenience food, It’s filling and can be had in various forms like bread toast, bread and Jam, jelly etc. Sandwiches with various dressings which are available in the market along with vegetables and cheese is common lunch box options. Its non messy and can be assembled even by children or young adults. It’s a home makers boon too.
However this upma , takes little effort time and due to its delectable taste ,you will surely try the recipe.
A day old bread is preferred to fresh ones.

Ingredients
- Bread slices 6,
- Onion medium size 2 ( chopped fine )
- Oil 4 teaspoon,
- Ghee 4teaspoon,
- Mustard 1 teaspoon,
- Black Gram dal ½ teaspoon,
- Green chillies 4 number ( chopped)
- Curry leaves 1 tablespoon,
- Ginger grated ½ teaspoon,
- Cashew Nuts 6 to 8 numbers,
- Salt to taste
- Khus khus or poppy seeds 1/4 teaspoon,
- Cardamom 2,
- Anise or fennel seeds,
- Cloves 2.
- Cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon
Method
- To make masala powder : Dry roast khus khus or poppy seeds , cardamom , anise seeds, cloves in a shallow pan. Powder them well.
- In a pan heat oil, add mustard, green chillies, black gram dal, curry leaves, ginger and stir. Add cashew and ghee and saute.
- Add chopped onions, shallow fry till light brown.
- Remove the crust of the bread and cut into small cubes or crumble/tear them with your hands to shapeless pieces.
- Sprinkle a little water if they are very dry or the bread is stale or little old.
- Add this bread to the pan daute in low heat, along with salt for a minute or so.
- Sprinkle masala powder on top and give a stir.
- Serve hot, this super easy filling dish .
Use a day old bread to get best results.
