Panchamirtham

 

Panchamirtham is delicious offering made to the God during festivals or daily pooja. This is a mushy amalgamation of bananas and all various types of sugar. Palani panchamirtham is very famous prasadam of the Lord Muruga deity of Palani and  this banana is grown around the  Palani hills abundantly. However it can be made at home too with this simple recipe. This is used as abhishekam for various Hindu  pooja rituals.

Do you know the kalkandu ( Rock sugar) is a healthier substitute to Refined sugar.It acts as an mouth freshener . It relieves sore throat and cold , if eaten with black pepper corns . If your digestion is sluggish it boosts it , if eaten with fennel seeds or saunf.

Ingredients

  • Malai vazhai pazham or hill variety of banana 6 in number,
  •  Rock Sugar or jaggery 1 tablespoon,
  • Ghee 1 teaspoon,
  • Dates 4 deseeded and chopped fine,
  • Honey ½ teaspoon,
  • Cardamom ¼ teaspoon,
  • Sugar candy 1 teaspoon,
  • Black Raisins 1/2 teaspoon.

Method

  1.  Peel the bananas . In a bowl , take the peeled bananas and mash them well, with a spoon or hand.
  2. Add sugar and mix well.
  3. Add all the other ingredients and mix well.
  4. The yummy panchamirtham is ready.

Method

  1. The hill banana is loaded in nutrients  and is good for lactating mothers. It is also good for all kinds of joint aches and pains.
  2. Other varieties of bananas like elakki or Bangalore Morris too can be used for making the Panchamirtham.
  3. Do  not use raisins or dry grapes  instead of black raisins ,as they will make Panchamirtam sour .
  4. The above recipe should not be made and kept for a long time in the open.
  5. Add more sugar or sugar candy according to one’s taste .
